Lunar Eclipse
May 15-16, 2003
Monroe, Louisiana

At 9:03 PM CDT, Thursday, May 15, 2003, a celestial spectacle began that thrilled nearly 400 people over the evening.  People from all walks of life and backgrounds gathered in the Books-A-Million parking lot to view the event through large telescopes, binoculars, or just their own eyes.  The earth's umbral shadow began to eat away at the full moon from its southern-most point.  By 10:10, the moon was in total eclipse.

On-lookers and professionals were expecting a dark red moon.  However, the copper colored moon never materialized.  Instead, it turned a dark grey.  Intermittent clouds occasionally obscured the moon but proved to be just a nuisance.  Below are photographs of the event.  ENJOY!
